JavaScript: minify and defer

Scripts are the most common reason pages feel slow to show up. Find these on Optimize, then JavaScript.

Make script files smaller (minify JS)

Removes spaces and comments from your scripts. The smaller copies are stored in wp-content/cache/softminal-cache-assets/.

Load scripts after the page is visible (defer JS)

The page shows first, then scripts run. This gives the biggest speed gain for most sites. It needs WordPress 6.3 or newer.

May break: sliders and pop-ups that run before the page shows. If something stops working, add its script to the list below.

Don’t delay these scripts

One per line: a file name, a script handle, or part of an inline script. jQuery is kept in the right order automatically.

Remove jQuery Migrate

jQuery Migrate is only needed by very old themes and plugins. Removing it saves a request.

After you change a script option, the self check loads your homepage and one post. If anything fails, the change switches back by itself.
