Browser cache and compression

Find these on the Cache tab, in the Browser and server card.

Let browsers keep files (browser cache headers)

Browsers keep images and fonts for a year, and CSS and scripts for a month. Pages themselves are never kept by browsers, so visitors always see your latest content.

Compress pages and files (GZIP or Brotli)

Text files are compressed before they are sent. Brotli is used when your server supports it.

How the rules are added

  • Apache and LiteSpeed: written to your .htaccess file in a block marked “Softminal Cache” when you save. Removed when you deactivate the plugin.
  • Nginx, multisite or a locked .htaccess: the card shows the rules with a Copy rules button. Add them to your server yourself. See Nginx setup.

Show cache status in headers

Adds the X-Softminal-Cache header to pages, so you can check whether a page came from the cache. On by default.
