New uploads get WebP or AVIF copies. Your originals are always kept. Find this on Optimize, then Images, in the card Smaller image formats.
Turn it on
- Make WebP copies of new uploads
- Make AVIF copies of new uploads (needs PHP 8.1 with AVIF support)
The card shows what your server supports. Choose the Quality: 70, 76, 82 (recommended), 88 or 92.
How copies work
- Copies sit next to the original, for example
photo.jpg.webp. - A copy is kept only if it is smaller than the original.
- JPEG and PNG images are converted.
- Browsers that support the format get the copy through a
<picture>tag. Others get the original.
Convert existing images
Click Convert existing images to make copies of your whole media library in the background. You can Pause, Resume or Stop it. The Saved so far card shows how many images got smaller and the average reduction.
Already use ImageCraft, ShortPixel, Performance Lab or Modern Image Formats for WebP? Softminal Cache sees it and leaves image formats to that plugin. The Dashboard shows “Handled by” with its name.
